All Day Culinary Regions of the United States: Cultural Exhibit (Multi-Day Event)

The Culinary Arts program prepares students for technical and managerial careers in restaurants, catering, and instructional food services. The Associate of Applied Science degree in Culinary Arts and the Certificate in Culinary Arts: Culinary Management, are accredited by the American Culinary Foundation education Foundation Accrediting Commission (ACFEFAC). With their practical skills and creative talent, Macomb culinary students and graduates have landed jobs at premier establishments, and have brought home 25 medals from the prestigious International Culinary Olympics held every four years in Germany.

In their eighth semester of creating an exhibit, the MCCA International Kitchen course presents: Culinary Regions of the United States.

Begin at the Library lobby and retrieve a map of the exhibit, which is stationed in multiple areas on the first and second floors. At each station, read about the cuisine, customary recipes, ingredients, and all aspects of food culture related to one of the 50 states. Locations include: Southwest, Floridian, Louisiana Creole, and the Rust Belt.

Two hours of MMII credit will be awarded for answering questions pertaining to all exhibit poster boards on each floor. When finished, the forms can be placed in the marked box located at the end of the exhibit.

What is consent?

Consent has become a buzzword for those seeking to address sexual assault on campus and in the larger community. But what does it mean? How does it work? Why is everyone so confused about consent? Through a workshop approach, the concept of consent will be examined through practical examples and skill development. Participants can expect to deepen their own knowledge of consent and walk away with strategies to better practice consent in their own lives.

Academic Success Seminars offer Macomb students the opportunity to learn strategies that will enhance their ability to succeed in college. All sessions incorporate active learning activities and students must complete the activities to obtain credit.

In this seminar students will analyze their decision making skills, learn effective ways to make decisions, discover the 7 building blocks to making better decisions and more.

10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Growing Up Trans: Film Viewing

Growing Up Trans is a an eye-opening PBS Frontline documentary told from the perspective of parents, doctors, and transgender youth. The documentary will be used as a springboard for an academic discussion geared toward developing participants’ understanding of the meaning of gender and how to empathize with and support transgender youth.

A feast for the eyes and the ears, this holiday musical collaboration is sure to start the Christmas season off both merry and bright. Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker, a holiday must, will be offered in collaboration with the Macomb Ballet Company, choreographed by artistic director Amber Megna-Michalik, and assistant directors Sarah Boik, and Mary Sherman, who bring a fresh perspective to a classic art.
