|10:00 AM - 11:30 AM ||One Billion Rising: Gender Equality
Speaker: Kathy Gerus
One Billion Rising is a global movement–a worldwide decision to end violence against girls and women–a “gathering of the ready.”
In the summer of 2014, Kathy Gerus, Macomb Community College Professor of Sociology, took a trip to India that changed her life. Inspired and humbled by the energy and resilience of the women and men she worked with as part of the Hemophilia Foundation of India’s first ever Women’s Empowerment Network workshops, she resolved to raise awareness in relation to gender equality issues back home.
Kathy Gerus will present on her experiences and lessons learned in India, and use that information to spread knowledge and awareness of gender equality for all.
Sponsored by the Macomb Multicultural International Initiatives (MMII).
