All Day Michigan Thumb Region Scholastic Art Awards Exhibit (Multi-Day Event)
Since 2007, the Lorenzo Cultural Center has partnered with the College for Creative Studies to host the Michigan Thumb Region of the Scholastic Art Awards, adjudicating nearly 2,000 pieces, and displaying over 500 award-winning pieces of art from students in grades 7 through 12, before those awarded top honors move on to the National Scholastic Art Competition in New York. 

Regular Hours: Mon – Sat 10am-4pm; Thurs. 10am-8pm.
Closed Sun.
 
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM South Campus General Student Walking Tour

Brrr- its cold outside, but our tours will warm your spirits.

Take a campus tour and get familiar with us whether you’re a new or returning student, or, just interested.

Tours are highly recommended and involve a 45 minute walk of the areas students need to know while attending Macomb Community College like Records & Registration, Financial Aid, Counseling, the Learning Center, Career Services, just to name a few.

Advanced registration is not required, but please check in no later than 5 minutes prior to the start of the tour.

Dress for the weather as you will be walking outside. 

Also, let us know in advance if you are driving over an hour to see us, or require special assistance for the tour.

Looking forward to seeing you on campus!  We’ll even provide the hot chocolate!!*

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings is a 1969 autobiography about the early years of American writer and poet Maya Angelou. The poem, Caged Bird, expresses how strength of character and a love of the arts can help overcome racism and trauma. Join us in the reading of Caged Bird, as well as analysis of the poem. This is a celebration for all to experience; no prior knowledge of poetry analysis needed. Experience the moving words of one of America’s most celebrated poets.

12:00 PM - 2:30 PM Celebrating Black History Month: Race: Film Viewing
Young Jesse Owens becomes a track and field sensation while attending The Ohio State University in the early 1930s. With guidance from coach Larry Snyder, Owens gains national recognition for breaking numerous records. After heated debates, the United States decides not to boycott the Olympics in Nazi Germany. Overcoming racism at home and abroad, Owens seizes the opportunity to show Berlin and the world that he’s the fastest man alive.
