presented by Mike Wiley Productions

In 1955 a 14-year-old black Chicago youth traveled to the Mississippi Delta with country kinfolk and southern cooking on his mind. He walked off the train into a world he could never understand – a world of thick color lines, of hard-held class systems and unspeakable taboos. Young Emmett crossed that line and stepped into his gruesome fate by whistling at a white woman. Written and performed by Mike Wiley, this riveting one-actor play chronicles the murder, trial and unbelievable confession of the men accused of Till’s lynching.

11:00 AM - 12:30 PM Poor Economics by Abhijit Banerjee: Book Discussion
In a book the Wall Street Journal called “marvelous, rewarding,” the authors tell how the stress of living on less than 99 cents per day encourages the poor to make questionable decisions that feed–not fight–poverty. The result is a radical rethinking of the economics of poverty that offers a ringside view of the lives of the world’s poorest, and shows that creating a world without poverty begins with understanding the daily decisions facing the poor.
In this collaborative discussion, points of view will be presented by Macomb Community College faculty in three curriculum areas: Economics, Mathematics, and Sociology.
