3:00 PM - 5:00 PM Macomb Symphony Orchestra - The Baroque Experience

“The Intimate Orchestra”

The popularity of the early music prompts us to invite you again to hear the genius of  17th and early 18th century creativity  Music of the court and of the church dominated this period, but we will let you indulge as though you’re royalty!

If you have ever heard the Adagio by Albinoni you will never forget it! It possesses one of those

melodies that sticks with you.  Vivaldi’s Concerto Grosso in G is often known as the Concerto alla Rustica  for its use of a scale often found in folk music of the period. It’s a concerto for the whole orchestra, not for individual soloists.

Another work we will hear is a twist on the concerto concept. In this case Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto #3, a work for nine soloists!

Some French dramatic music rounds out the program. Les Fete d’Hebe (The Festivities of Hebe) is an opera-ballet by the master of French baroque opera, Jean Philippe Rameau. We will present a ballet suite from this drama.  If this music charmed Louis XV, it is bound to please you.
