12:30 PM - 3:00 PM Concealed Weapons on Campus: A Philosophical Presentation
In this presentation, participants will explore whether or not college campuses should allow concealed carry. Two primary arguments will be considered for such an allowance: it is a right, and it makes us all safe. It is suggested there is no substantial evidence for the increased safety argument. The idea there may be a set of rights at play, which may be in conflict, will also be discussed; as such, an argument that focuses on a single right is too narrow. Finally, an argument could be made that general features of human psychology, in combination with certain features of our culture, call into question the idea that human agency is the lone cause of gun violence.
This presentation will be led by Dr. John Koolage, Professor of Philosophy at Eastern Michigan University.

The 5-digit registration number for this event is: 57867
12:30 PM - 2:00 PM WORDcraft Wednesdays
WORDcraft Wednesdays is a monthly reading series at South Campus featuring the work of local writers, including Macomb students and staff, hosted by the Department of English and Communications.

Terry Hojnacki is editing and rewriting her first mainstream fiction novel.  When not lost in her own words, she’s often reading and reviewing other authors, editing and proofreading manuscripts, or designing and polishing covers. She volunteers in the writing community, encouraging new and experienced authors to improve and promote their work.
The next event is Wednesday, March 21, 12:30 to 2 p.m. at K-267, South Campus—café area.

Bring your latest work to read—open mic begins at 1:30 p.m.  For more information or to be considered as a featured reader, contact Nicole Castle-Kelly, English faculty, at castlen@macomb.edu.
