Macomb Community College is holding a free health fair at Center campus in building F.  The health fair includes assessment testing, glucose testing, blood pressure checks, relieving choking victims, fitness applications, demonstrations and more!  Various vendors will be participating.  For more information, contact Professor Linda Jenuwine at 586-286-2257.

All Day Suicide Awareness & Prevention Week: Remembrance Wall (Multi-Day Event)

A Remembrance Wall will be placed in K Building near the main entrance. All will be welcomed to post a memory, a name of a friend or loved one who passed from suicide, or a thoughtful message throughout the week.

According to the World Health Organization, almost one million individuals commit suicide each year. In the last 45 years, suicide rates have increased 60% globally. In the U.S. alone, there is an average of one suicide committed every 15 minutes.

All Day Suicide Awareness & Prevention Week: Stomp Out Suicide (Multi-Day Event)

To represent the approximately 1,100 U.S. college students who commit suicide each year, shoes will be placed around campus. Attached to each pair of shoes will be a brief bio of a college student who committed suicide. The intention is to demonstrate the impact of this issue and raise awareness. In addition to the shoes, statistics and information regarding suicide will be placed on signs and written on sidewalks using chalk to grab attention.

This library exhibit will include student-produced informational posters, flyers, stories, artwork and community resources all related to educating on issues related to suicide.

This week’s Word Craft Wednesday puts emphasis on poetry and stories related to the impact of suicide, depression, grief and loss of hope, resilience and strength.

Start your day with a Docent Tour of the front areas of the Zoo, including The Polk Penguin Conservation Center, which opened April, 2016. Included lunch will be catered at the zoo with Caesar salad, antipasto platter (meats, cheeses/olives), sautéed zucchini blend with garlic bread, Tuscan Chicken in lemon wine sauce, 3-cheese tortellini primavera in garlic cream sauce, assorted cookies and cannoli with canned Pepsi/ bottled water. The outing concludes in the afternoon with a presentation by Lisa Forzley, Humane Education Specialist at The Detroit Zoo. Forzley will discuss her experience visiting the Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education Center (GRACE) in the Congo.

This two-day seminar is specifically for those who supervise the use of, or are responsible for operating and maintaining mechanical power presses. Attendees will receive a comprehensive review of MIOSHA General Industry Safety Standard Part 24, Mechanical Power Presses.  The seminar will cover evaluation of hazards and selection of appropriate safe guarding means and methods for employee safety.

Academic Success Seminars offer Macomb students the opportunity to learn strategies that will enhance their ability to succeed in college. All sessions incorporate active learning activities and students must complete the activities to obtain credit.
In this seminar students will discover their personal learning style, identify the characteristics of each learning style, learn techniques for reading college text and more.
