Macomb Community College is holding a free health fair at Center campus in building F.  The health fair includes assessment testing, glucose testing, blood pressure checks, relieving choking victims, fitness applications, demonstrations and more!  Various vendors will be participating.  For more information, contact Professor Linda Jenuwine at 586-286-2257.

End Day Suicide Awareness & Prevention Week: Remembrance Wall (Multi-Day Event)

A Remembrance Wall will be placed in K Building near the main entrance. All will be welcomed to post a memory, a name of a friend or loved one who passed from suicide, or a thoughtful message throughout the week.

According to the World Health Organization, almost one million individuals commit suicide each year. In the last 45 years, suicide rates have increased 60% globally. In the U.S. alone, there is an average of one suicide committed every 15 minutes.

End Day Suicide Awareness & Prevention Week: Stomp Out Suicide (Multi-Day Event)

To represent the approximately 1,100 U.S. college students who commit suicide each year, shoes will be placed around campus. Attached to each pair of shoes will be a brief bio of a college student who committed suicide. The intention is to demonstrate the impact of this issue and raise awareness. In addition to the shoes, statistics and information regarding suicide will be placed on signs and written on sidewalks using chalk to grab attention.

This library exhibit will include student-produced informational posters, flyers, stories, artwork and community resources all related to educating on issues related to suicide.

This two-day seminar is specifically for those who supervise the use of, or are responsible for operating and maintaining mechanical power presses. Attendees will receive a comprehensive review of MIOSHA General Industry Safety Standard Part 24, Mechanical Power Presses.  The seminar will cover evaluation of hazards and selection of appropriate safe guarding means and methods for employee safety.

Hiring students who are interested in learning behavior intervention techniques with children (birth to 18) who have autism. We employ about 100 behavior technicians at our three locations (Novi, Detroit, and Macomb). This is a great opportunity for students interested in a career in Autism. Positions are part-time and flexible allowing for changes each semester to accommodate school schedules.

Employees are trained to implement a variety of behavior change strategies, observational assessment techniques and data collection. This is an ideal work experience for those going into a helping profession such as psychology, education, early childhood, social work, occupational therapy, speech therapy or other related fields. Students can get a quality experience related to their field of study. A behavior technician is an entry level position in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and can lead to many additional career advancement positions that students can obtain at the undergraduate and graduate levels with minimal coursework in ABA.

A coloring event will be held during Suicide Awareness & Prevention Week to allow participants to explore the use of coloring as a mindfulness exercise and coping skill. Discussion will be held on the benefits of having coping skills and outlets for stressful situations.
