7:30 PM - 9:30 PM The Hit Men:

featuring Former Stars of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons

Experience the greatest hits of the 60s, 70s and 80s the way you first heard them…from the guys who made and played them all. Not the cast from Jersey Boys or a tribute show. Not a Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons cover band. Members of this super group of musicians, vocalists, arrangers and composers actually were the Four Seasons who sang with Frankie Valli. They were the Shondells who sang with Tommy James. They are the authentic rock and rollers whose legacy includes hundreds of hit songs like “Oh What a Night,” “Peace Train,” “You’re So Vain” and more.

7:30 PM The Tender Land

by Aaron Copeland
presented by MICHIGAN OPERA THEATRE
In partnership with MACOMB CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

The Tender Land is the quintessential American opera composed by Aaron Copeland, the Dean of American composers. His music is readily recognizable and speaks of the American landscape. The opera is about a traditional, humble, rural 1930s family suspicious of outsiders and their morals. When two worldly drifters arrive seeking work on the Moss family farm, their daughter Laurie, about to graduate from high school, falls in love with one of them and is torn between her roots and her desire to explore the world. In 1971, David DiChiera mounted a major revival that was conducted by the composer. The March 2016 performances are based on the MOT production.

In a highly anticipated national tour, three supremely gifted singer-songwriters share the stage, joining forces in celebration of American songwriting that seeks the heart’s core. Grammy-winner Patty Griffin “digs deep into introspective lyrics…[using] the silence between notes to create shimmering music you won’t soon forget” (American Songwriter); Nickel Creek co-founder Sara Watkins creates “a sound that’s gritty and determined to avoid clichés” (BBC Music); and Anaïs Mitchell is “writing material that stands comparison with the great singer-songwriters,” including Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen (Daily Telegraph).

7:30 PM - 9:30 PM An Evening with Branford Marsalis

“Saxophonist Marsalis leads one of the most cohesive, intense small jazz ensembles on the scene today....”—Associated Press

NEA Jazz Master, renowned Grammy Award®winning saxophonist, and Tony Award® nominee Branford Marsalis is one of the most revered instrumentalists of his time. Leader of one of the finest jazz quartets today, and a frequent soloist with classical ensembles, Marsalis’ most current recording with his quartet is Four MFs Playin’ Tunes. On this album, the song takes center stage, with the band members bringing their considerable musical expertise to bear, as they focus on each tune as an important musical entity unto itself and not merely a vehicle for showcasing individual talent.
